Today, our kids have a plethora of toy and entertainment selections - primarily the entertainment type. Oh sure, there's some interaction with a video game, and some skill involved, but it's really the video game doing the active entertainment. Even baby toys buzz, talk, light up and generally entertain their user. Remember when toys were more static in nature, and required you (the kid) to use his or her imagination to bring that toy or found object to life as a racing car, sword, magic wand, or (God No!) a gun? Our parents sure as heck didn't have time for daily playtime during those long summer vacations… it was get up, get outside and FIND SOMETHING TO DO!
Nothing gives us more joy than to tell our kids how good they have it and how we had to make do with bike riding, baseball, hopscotch, and other pursuits to while away the hours. They don't understand how we survived the obvious boredom associated with these stone-age time activities. Well here's your chance to show ‘em what it was like to play armed only with a few common basics and your own penny candy fueled brainwaves - introducing Box-n-Stick!
Used separately or together, Box-n-Stick provides hours of battery-free entertainment. Have pirate sword fights, play "box hockey" in the backyard, put the box on your head for that robot-like look, learn baton-twirling basics, or combine several sets to build a brick wall to crash through - the possibilities are limited only by their imagination! Should the kids be too video-game zombie-fied to think of anything, each Box-n-Stick set includes complete assembly directions and activity suggestions to get them started. Imagine the horrified looks of revulsion on their faces when confronted with having to actually dream up something to do with a minimum of materials and no megabytes or internet bandwidth to help them - Priceless!
Each Box-n-Stick is made from 100% recyclable materials (a cardboard box and wooden stick), so it's good for the environment. Good clean fun with a zero carbon footprint - doesn't that sound good for a change?
Seriously, we know it's a goof, and a pretty good one. We got this idea a few years ago at Christmas (after practically re-mortgaging the house to buy toys) and decided to visit our local hardware store for some materials. A box, stick, a little instruction sheet and some shrink wrap later - a product was born! Watching our little nubbins open them and seeing their dumfounded, "what the…?" looks was truly hysterical (for us parents, that is). After a little prodding and some "we used to…" stories from us, they went outside and (are you ready for this?) actually started having some fun with them! Ahhh, for that brief time, kid-dom's creativity lived again! They told their friends what a goofy gift it was, who told their parents (who immediately recognized what a bright idea it was), and the requests poured in! We are not kidding!
What good is having kids if you can't annoy them once in a while? Try a Box-n-Stick today. It's a sure way to bring the high tech kids of today a slice of the Back-In-The-Day tales we tell. …Now if we can only get Grandma to knock it off with the hoop and stick stories!
